Why does laptop restart occasionally when I touch the left built in speaker (JBL Pro)?

If I have been away from my laptop (a Compaq from 2004) for a while and I put my hand on the left front corner (where the speaker is built in) it will occasionally restart. It almost feels like a static electric shock when it happens. The computer restarts just fine, but I have to reopen any window I was using. This is VERY annoying and I am worried that something is wrong. Has anyone heard of anything like this? Thanks...
