Considering building a gaming laptop?

I'm thinking about buying a gaming laptop, but haven't found anything that looks promising yet. The companies I have looked at and like are Falcon Northwest, Asus, and Alienware. I only want to spend about $1000 dollars on because Im on a strict budget as college is very expensive. Any ideas? Thanks
